Alex and Maddi were our very first Catholic Wedding Day of 2024! We may be a little (ok, a lot!) behind in sharing our sacrament stories, but we’re excited to start today. It’s our goal to shine the light on every one of our couples and share the beauty of their days!

Starting the Year Off Right
Alex and Maddi started their unique story by choosing the end of January for their wedding day. This isn’t unheard of, but it’s definitely less conventional for Ohio brides and grooms. Was it chilly and a little rainy? Yup. But was it still the perfect day to get married? You bet. We honestly LOVE their choice because here’s what is says about the couple: they are going to do exactly what’s best for them! In fact, we were very similar when we shocked our family and friends by getting married in March. Not the most popular wedding month either but if was perfect for US!
A Barn with Class
Barn weddings were all the rage when we got married back in 2017 and we’re happy to see that they are still thriving because let’s face it, we all need a bit of rustic + country charm in our lives. The Bicentennial Barn in Dayton is such a sweet location for your shabby chic wedding. The bridal suite is so cozy to get ready in and you can’t beat the make-up lights! Not to mention the gorgeous staircase and foyer perfect for photographing the groom.
One of Our Favorite Dayton Catholic Churches
Alex and Maddi hosted their gorgeous Catholic Wedding Mass at Emmanuel Catholic Church located in downtown Dayton, Ohio. This is one of our favorite Catholic Churches in Dayton for a lot of reasons, but one of the biggest would have to be the gorgeous bright cream paired withe regal red accents. It has such a timeless Catholic Church feel and even in the depths of January, it felt bright and airy in the sanctuary. Of course Emmanuel is also the perfect backdrop for dramatic post-catholic wedding church photos.
The Weather Couldn’t Stop Us!
Somehow the majority of the chilly rain missed us on this January day, but we did happen to catch a tiny bit of it. And we’re not mad! Because clear umbrellas, in our humble opinion, are so photogenic and sweet. So don’t despair if one needs to be pulled out on your own Catholic Wedding day. We hope these photos are evidence enough that it won’t ruin your photos in the least! Plus, we think the addition of an umbrella helped further tell the story of the couple: a love that holds up even against a little “bad” weather. We were also happy that we could get a few shots without the umbrella though so that the couple could have a little variety and fit a few dance steps into their photo time!
What a Hoedown…
This reception was full of fun in so many ways. One of our favorite additions was a Photo Dash – something we highly recommend if you want photos with everyone! With the help of the DJ, Maddi and Alex hopped from table to table where we snapped a quick photo of the entire group. I’m so glad they have all of these to look back on to know exactly who attended their wedding. Then it was on to the sweetest cake cutting (which may or may not have turned into an unexpected mini smash). The speeches were exciting, the dances emotional, and the party had crazy high energy that we hated to walk away from.
We pray that Maddi and Alex have had the loveliest first year of marriage and there are many more to come. As always, we are praying for them every day!
